About Indian Parallel Cinema Festival of Australia (IPCFA)

The ‘Indian Doctors in Australia (IDIA)’, is arranging the first  ‘Indian Parallel Cinema Festival of Australia (IPCFA)’ in Sydney with the aim to bring the more artistically inclined Indian  films for the Australian diaspora and Australian audience.

The event will be held from the 9th to 11th Aug 2024 at the Palace Cinema, 99 Norton Street, Leichhardt, Sydney, NSW, 2040.

We plan to feature a selection of films by different Indian arthouse filmmakers each year, including the likes of  Mrinal Sen, Shyam Benegal, Aparna Sen, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, and along with the more contemporary directors such as Nandita Das, Anurag Kashyap, Konkana Sen Sharma and Vishal Bharadwaj, among others.

The first IPCFA will focus on the works of the legendary Satyajit Ray who was awarded an Honorary Award in 1992 for Lifetime Achievement by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts Ray’ son the filmmaker Sandip Ray, who is an established filmmaker in his own right, and has been involved with Satyajit Ray’s films in various roles will be attending this event in person as our chief guest. While we will showcase four of Ray’s finest films with post movie discussions, Sandip Ray will conduct a movie-masterclass for those keen to understand the subtleties of movie-making. The renowned Indian actors Victor Banerjee and Dhritiman Chatterjee who have acted in Ray’s films will join us virtually for post movie discussions.
